12 hours and counting!

Can I just say... 12 MORE HOURS until our opening!  We are all just excited and on pins and needles.  We must first try NOT to shop from one another's treasures.  This is very difficult!  Everyone has such fabulous things!  Here is just a sample:

Don't forget to join us Tomorrow October 14 and Saturday October 15th @ 9607 Fairby Dr.  Gretna, Nebraska ( just east of 204th and Cornhusker) ! The first ever ~ Prairie Pickers and Peddlers Market!   Trust me... The pictures do not do the treasures justice.  The treasures await.

More photos on Kathleen's Blog!

I know... I just posted... but, check out the cool photos on Kathleen's blog: karymade.blogspot.com
They are just awesome!  Thank goodness Kathleen didn't forget her camera!  While you are checking out the cool photos, pay close attention to her dolls.  Rug hooked faced and lovingly handmade wardrobes!  I am sure I will be snapping up one of these lovelies myself.  Thanks Kathleen! More photos on Kathleen's blog!

36 hours until the show!

Can it really be only 36  hours until we open for our first show?  It is almost here.  Of course something had to be forgotten... and what would that be?  My camera, of course.  However, Deb of Twice Nice has so thoughtfully posted some great photos on her sight.  You can get a glimpse of what we have to offer.  I will try to get over there tomorrow and snap a few photos as we have filled the place up!  Deb so generously offered up her home for the first show and we have filled every space possible.  There has to be at least 500 items up for sale this Friday and Saturday!  I am so very excited and hope that everyone who comes out enjoys the outing and takes a treasure or two home with them.  Check back in the next 24 hours for more photos!  Check out Deb's Blog for great photos @ twicenice.blogspot.com

Work Work Work

Hi Ho, Hi Ho it is off to work we go!  Okay, except for the fact that I am not leaving the house to do the work. The "work" is here!   I have my Mother working, my Mother-in-Law working, my Husband working, and my Father-in-Law working.  The only people not working are the children.  How does that work?  I know... part of the definition of childhood includes PLAY!  But, I wanna play too!  I am whining... a bit.   Even though I am crazy busy and life keeps running at me at lightening speed  ~  I am having the time of my life!  Here are a few more photos to share:

I am currently in a Jewelry and Hair accessory race.  Attempting to create some beautiful pieces that are just a "must have"!  I will post some of those photos in the next day or two...

So... while all of this creating has been going on... Life has also been flying by as usual at this home.  In the middle of trying to prepare for the inaugural PRAIRIE PICKERS AND PEDDLERS MARKET on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15... I have flown to Georgia for my oldest son's graduation from Army Basic Training. We just couldn't be prouder!

We have done numerous college tours for our daughter and "POP" here comes Homecoming!  Now, Homecoming is always a big deal... but, in your senior year it just may be one of the biggest deals!  So, during all of this chaos we also readied our "Girl" for her last high school Homecoming. We just love these goofy shots!  These are so her!  So I am off to paint, and shop, and create, and revamp, and restructure, and maintain this household.  I hope I can stay awake!  Hello COFFEE!

This is Vivienne

This is one of my latest upcycle, revamp, redecor... Vivienne!  Isn't she a beauty?  Gorgeous and regal.  She took a bit of effort, but I must say that she finished beautifully!  I used 2 parts Annie Sloan duck egg, and 1 part Annie Sloan olive.  She will be for sale at the Prairie Pickers and Peddlers Market on Oct. 14 and 15.  Stop on by if you want to check out some beautiful items from many talented artisans!
P.S. I have now blogged 2 days in a row.  Go Me!

Long time, No hear!

I am back!  Okay, could you pretend to be excited... just a little bit?  I have been on a whirl wind tour of excitement.  Well, my definition of excitement.   Many college tours ( for my daughter ) and trips to Georgia ( to see my son who is in basic training ).  I have been creating like a mad~woman trying to get ready for our premiere Prairie Pickers and Peddlers Market Show.  It is coming.  In fact, coming up quickly... like 3 weeks... like October 14 and 15.  So... to include a few of my creative revamps, check out the photos!

These are just a taste of the goodies I have been hard at work beautifying!  Is that even a word?
So I will post some close ups of individual pieces tomorrow with some pricing and descriptions.  Oh... that is my pup, Hope.  What a good puppy!  P.S. she is not for sale!

"Marigold" the chair

Okay, I know that in the last blog I said I would post these the next day.  Darn it if life does not get in the way!  I found this beauty at a garage sale and no one saw the underlying structure that could make her gorgeous once again.  Well... the original upholstery on this piece was never beautiful.  In fact, I really don't think it could have ever been in style.  All right already, enough hating on the chair.  So here she is in process...

Now here she is in her restored glory!
A little feedback please!  What do you all think?

"Charlotte" the Cedar Chest

Do you ever feel like there are not enough minutes in the day?  Not enough time to accomplish all that you want to do?  Ever feel like it is one big "catch up"?  Welcome to my world!  I have been on a whirlwind of buying and creating.  I wish my body could keep up with my thoughts.  I finally have a moment to sit down and "blog" now that the children are back in school.  Today is my first day with the 3 of them in school for the whole day!  So far, so good!  I have been sitting on the photos of the latest completed project for no other reason other than I just couldn't sit down (uninterrupted) long enough to get it on here.  So... without further rambling... Here is Charlotte.

I named her "Charlotte" because when I found her she was covered in webs.  Clever?  Well, my attempt at cleverness, anyway.  Please excuse the staging.  It will get better.
Tomorrow's Post:  "Marigold" an armchair's story.

The "HAZEL"
The unveiling...
Here she is with all 4 leaves and all six chairs.  I am pretty pleased with the results.  However, I am still not 100% on the covers for the seats.  I am still letting it "stew" a bit.

Here she is without her leaves and minus 2 of her chairs.  I really think that it took my longer to navigate the entries than it did to complete the piece.  This baby is solid walnut and is quite beautiful!  Now, don't get me wrong... it was not so lovely when I found it.  It was in pieces.  It had been ignored for many years... disassembled, unloved, pushed aside in a garage.  Well, no more!  She is ready to be loved!  What do you think?

Figuring out this whole "blog" thing

It has taken awhile... but I finally think I have a handle (be it slippery) on this whole blogging thing.  Trying to maneuver my way around the World of Technology has proven to be a bit of a daunting task.  I have been begging the Hubster for help, but with his crazy schedule and my crazy schedule... I had to hold him hostage to get a bit of help.  Now, with 20 minutes of his time and some determination on my part, I think we have it down.  I have finished a few pieces... The large dinette set is completely finished and looks SWEET!  I have finished a beautiful cedar chest and am now onto many more projects.  I have tried uploading photos and blog entries via my iphone... and CRASH!  I now have to research why the photos will not upload.  Here we go again with the technology challenge.  I will figure it out!  Now... I have added some tabs at the top of my page... Please pay close attention to The Prairie Pickers and Peddlers Market with our upcoming open house event.  I pasted this from my friend Deb's Blog... TwiceNice... because she is the bomb and is way more organized and ahead of the game than I am.  I am getting there!

A grouping and a reminder.

2. Here you will see a grouping in my powder room along with a quote from Albus Dumbledore.  Yes, I am letting my goofy and fun side show.  I began reading these books to my children when they were first published and we all fell in love with them.  The quote, in particular, I thought would be hysterical above the toilet.  I believe one should always find the time to contemplate the deeper meaning of life's philosophies.  Why not use your time wisely in the restroom?
"It's not our abilities that show
who we truly are; it is our choices"  Albus Dumbledore

The Curry Family definition

In my rush to leave for vacation, I quickly decided to snap a few iphone photos of a few projects from my home.  I hope you enjoy these and they inspire something in you!
1. Our family definition.  I have had this "C" for quite a long time, and couldn't quite figure out what to do with it.  I tried it on my front door, in a grouping with photos, on a shelf with other "C's", finally I took it down and it sat on the garage shelf.  Then I had an inspirational moment.  I LOVE subway art!  I do, I really do.  I made quite a few of them this year as graduation gifts, and they were a hit.  So, why not use the "C" to highlight our last name and create subway are in our newly redecorated powder room.  So here it is:
P.S. Pleas disregard the lame photography... I truly was doing this as my husband was waiting patiently in the car.

Six Piece Walnut Table and Chair set in progress.

This is the current project in progress in my garage.  A not so beautiful walnut table and chair set.  Yes... I  said "walnut".  I didn't really think that I could find a piece of solid walnut furniture that would be unattractive.  But, I am a bit of an over achiever.  Please tell me that you sensed the satire in that last statement.  These chairs are still a work in progress.  I am giving them the "charm" by using Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in beautiful "Versailles", and I have my eye on some exquisite Waverly fabric.  I really can't tell you at this point as to whether the fabric I have my eye on will make it to the final cut.  As I have said, all things "jockey" for a permanent position.  These chairs are awaiting their touch-up sanding and their coats of wax.  When I finally return home from our combination family wedding, vacation, and college tours... I hope to finish them ASAP, because I can't wait to see the finished project.  On to posting some photos of a few of my favorite completed projects from my house... With the intentions that these may give someone, (anyone) some creative inspiration.

First Post of a New Adventure

And, here we go..... The first blog.  Will anyone be that interested in the artistry and musings of a 40-something woman on a quest to find her passion?  Let's hope there may be a few out there who are willing to attempt this journey with me.  With one of my 4 children out of the house ~ another one on the way out, next year ~ and 2 very active and independent little boys left at home, it was time to give some thought to what I would like to do now that I am beginning a new stage in my life.  With some help and prodding from my husband, family, and friends (especially Miss Deb Owen, check her blog out at... http://twicenice.blogspot.com).  I figured... why not?  I do enjoy and respond to all things creative.  I love to look at other's work and wonder... How did they do that?  Can I do that?  Can I tweak it?  Do I want it in my home?  Can I create something all my own?  We shall see.  We shall see.  Now being a mother of 4 ( a stay at home mother of 4), means I have had to budget, A LOT.  I don't mind it so much.  This has allowed those creative juices to flow.  I prepared homemade family meals, I quilt, I sew, I re-purpose, I repair and re-purpose things, I find new ways of using things that I may already have or have found picking.   What is picking?  Oh my!  Garage sale bargains, free items, thrift stores, estate sales, any sale.  You name it, and I will give it a go.

On a soapbox note:  I really believe we are a blessed society that is so quick to throw things out and buy new.   We have huge homes and are never quite content with what we have... and continue to want more.  A consumer society.  I am ready to re-consume.  Okay, that may not be a word, but let's start a revolution!

I will be starting this blog as I am leaving on vacation... so bear with me.  What better time to start something than the present?  So even on my travels, I will be looking for unwanted furniture to give new life to.  Got a picture frame?  I can make something with that.  How about linens, fabric, odds and ends? Check, check and check.

On this blog you will find some re-purposed items for sale, some artistry items, eventually (hopefully) some tutorials, yummy meal plans and recipes, ideas, musings, links to some great blogs, great finds, and a little humor.  Okay, I hope you get my humor and silliness.   You may occasionally see a cute little blond head, or a sparkle of a blue eye.  Those are my children.  I am a pretty proud mom.  You may see a strikingly handsome, tall man... that would be my husband.  Yeah, he is pretty fabulous.

So, without further delay... let's BLOG!
